I’m a writer and lover of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and speculative fiction. I work in the space industry doing spacecraft mission operations and astrodynamics.

I live in the UK with my wife, son, and two dogs. I love good coffee and single malt whiskey, depending on the time of day.

Stochastic Destiny

The past cannot harm me, cannot be changed. I am still alive. The radioactive trigger has the same chance of decaying (and thereby detonating the device) in the next five minutes as it had in the previous five. But it’s very human to fail to understand that on an emotional level – to feel that your time is ‘running out’ the more it passes. I attach the analyser to the bomb’s circuitry and methodically probe its secrets. The trigger, governed purely by the law of the half-life, has no memory of elapsed time. And the monkey in my brain screams.
