The Rubbish

by Linda Powell
Originally published by on 25/11/2018

All he could really remember about his mother, even as a young boy, was her giving him endless jobs around the house to do. She constantly berated him, shouting exactly what tasks that day had brought. He would face a beating if he didn't finish any on time.

He could hear her voice now. "Don't forget to put the rubbish out today. It's green bin day."

He smiled as he wrapped up her arm and a leg, and put them in the green bin.

"Goodbye to that rubbish," he said.

In a few months, she would be gone for good.
