I Scream

by Jill Parker
Originally published by BookHippo.uk on 09/06/2018

The panic made me catch my breath. I ran, glancing behind. I was ahead, but he was gaining. My breath started to rasp in my throat, my heart beating fast, blood thrumming in my ears.

Another swift glance. He was getting closer. Open-mouthed and gasping, I ran, my chest heaving with the effort.

I could hear him now behind me, his longer strides eating up the distance between us. Just... a... few... yards... more....

Triumphantly I hit the side of the ice cream van, a fraction ahead of him. “I won, you pay,' I gasped, laughing. “Mine's a 99!'
