Strangers in a Strange Land

by Adrienne Ferguson
Originally published by BookHippo.uk on 28/04/2018

The year was 1905. The big ship had docked about forty-five minutes ago. Walking slowly down the gangway, two men approached dry land on very shaky legs.

The taller of the two said in Russian, “I did not expect America to look like this.'

The other shrugged his broad shoulders, whilst staring at a sign. He spoke a little English, but did not understand what he was looking at.

He tentatively approached a man working on the dock and haltingly asked, “Pliz. What this say?'

“Hull,' said the man.

“What is Hull?'

“Not what, pal. Where. Hull is in England!'
