On-Time Departure

by David A Pearson
Originally published by BookHippo.uk on 03/04/2018

The car screeched to a halt at the side of the cobbled street. Two men got out, slamming the doors, and raced towards the river. The younger man was out in front, and as he reached the water's edge, he jumped. After he’d landed he shouted to the older, slower man, "Come on, come on, you can make it!"

The older man stopped at the shore, unsure of himself. Then he stepped back, ran to the parapet and launched himself into the air.

The horn on the ferry boomed in their ears.

"Phew, that was close – we nearly missed it!"
