The Monster

by Kath Middleton
Originally published by on 22/02/2018

Gail was worried about her son Harry. At five he started with dreadful night terrors. Nobody in the house was getting any sleep. There didn't seem to be a reason. No bullying at school. Nothing.

Awake and desperate another night, she looked under his bed once more. "See, nothing," she said. "Monsters don't exist!"

"Yes, but this one followed me home!" said her sobbing son.

"There's nothing there, Harry," she said, patience now wearing thin. "I'll leave the light on for you."

After his mummy had gone back to bed, a voice said, "She can't see me. Only you can."
