Walking through the Museum of Abstract Curiosities, they paused by a glass case containing a shard of light.

'What is it?' he asked, peering in.

'That's what it is,' she replied. 'It's it. The laws of the universe state: whenever someone says something like "it's raining" or "it's a shame", that "it" has to refer to something. This is the master it, the thing that sucks up all those unaccounted for "its".'

It flickered each time its name was spoken.

He frowned. 'It's smaller than I expected.'

'That's a shame.'

In another case, another object flickered.

And that was that.
